ACCESS STATEMENT

This access statement does not contain personal opinions as to our suitability for those with access needs but aims to accurately describe the facilities and services available to our visitors.

Introduction

The public Town Walks and Ghost Walks start from the Swan Fountain. It is a water fountain with 2 silver swans, situated on the edge of the Bancroft Gardens, close to the junction of Waterside and Sheep Street. It is approximately 200 yards in front of the Royal Shakespeare Theatre.

The Town Walk is a guided walking tour around the streets of Stratford, wheelchair friendly and suitable for everyone. The guide will endeavour to use the dropped-kerbs where available. 

The duration is around 2hrs. The tour passes the 3 Shakespeare Town Houses, 15th century timber-framed buildings, Shakespeare’s School, River Avon and Holy Trinity Church. There are two entrances to the Church, one with a step to enter and the other completely accessible and suitable for wheelchairs.

Walking boots are not necessary, but comfortable shoes and suitable clothing (appropriate for the weather conditions) is recommended.

The nearest Railway Station is Stratford Central (10-15 mins).

Taxis are usually available at the Station or can be pre-booked.

The nearest bus-stop is in Bridge Street (2 mins).

Car Parking and arrival

There are limited blue-badge parking spaces close to the meeting place, in Waterside and Sheep Street.

There are numerous car parks in Stratford upon Avon, the nearest being Bridgeway multi-storey (5 mins).

Wheelchairs and mobility scooters can be hired from Stratford Shopmobility, situated at Bridgeway multi-storey car park, CV37 6YX.  Daily use is free, longer usage will incur a charge.

The nearest coach park is Riverside/Leisure Centre car and coach park (10-15 mins).

The meeting place is close to shops, restaurants and cafes and there is seating on benches around the Swan Fountain.

Public Toilets

Public toilets with disabled facility are located on Waterside, approximately 50 yards from the meeting place.  There is a small charge to enter.

Additional Information

Ghost Cruise and themed Cruises

The themed cruises are run in partnership with Bancroft Cruisers. The provision of the boat, crew, safety and refreshment is the responsibility of Bancroft Cruisers and the provision of the entertainment is the responsibility of Stratford Town Walk. The boat is covered, heated and has a lift to provide access for all users. The toilet is accessible to wheelchair users.

Other Events

Other events may include a visit to a building where easy access may not be possible. This can be discussed at the time of booking or making an enquiry.
